(More customer reviews)Still relatively new to the MMA mat area, I decided to spend a low amount cash for mats I wasn't sure I'd dedicate myself to fullest just yet. The mats had to be cheap enough that if in the coming months I found I didn't have time to pursue MMA then the financial burden wouldn't be so bad. Regardless of the low price, I needed the mats to be good quality: they had to handle a judo throw, had to have the hardness to move around on, and last long enough to get there money's worth. The issue was finding a quality mat with a decent amount of square feet for a low price. Luckily, I came across a Craigslist ad in Phoenix for some MMA mats: GetRung was offering 100sq ft of quality mat for $200+shipping. After doing a bit of research at Bullshido and other sites I decided on purchased the mats. And about a month in, I must say I am fully satisfied with the purchase.
Use:
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Muay Thai, Haganah, Wrestling, and whatever else I can try my hand at.
Assembly:
The mats come in 100sq feet, or 9 mats in total. The mats are puzzle piece squares and are very easy to disassemble and reassemble. There are also enough corner and edge pieces to make a complete square.
Hardness factor:
Soft enough to drive your heel into, but hard enough to have solid movement when wrestling. The mats are an inch thick and are therefore not thickenough to be put on concrete (I put the mats in my garage). This is where the judo floor comes in. Google "The Perfect Judo Floor" to find out what I supplemented with the mats. Two inches of plywood and two inches of foam provide a great floor for the mats. Between the mats and the judo floor I am able to throw my 300lb friend onto the mat and he isn't hurt by the impact. The mats are great for crashing on as long as you have a supplement beneath the mats. Otherwise, for wresting, or doing yoga, these mats will suit most non-impact needs.
Slip Factor:
Thus far, and after much sweating, I haven't slipped on these. On the Dollamur mats I get burned, but these mats are pretty good on the knee skin.
Customer Service:
Additionally, customer service with the company is horrid. Just google 'getrung customer" and you'll see the company isn't known for it's "handle-with-care" attitude toward the customer. I've experienced this first hand. While their attitude doesn't affect the quality or the price, some consumers may not want to deal with the poor attitude of the company's president.
If you don't care too much about poor customer service then these mats should suit your needs.
And to be fair, while I may not have gotten along with the president of GetRung, there are multiple complaints about his attitude. Just Google "getrung customer" and the first thing that pops up is a complaint.
Closing Comments:
I'll update the review in the coming months. For now, I am impressed with the mats. They would be useless without the judo floor, which itself costs money. Without the judo floor the mats would just be a glorified yoga mat. But for $225 including shipping there are no better deals anywhere for 100sq ft of quality mat.
