(More customer reviews)The Yoga Matrix is of monumental scope and Richard Benjamin with his steady, calm voice does a great narration. I enjoyed the CD set and feel that it's a good investment in time and cost, but on the second listening, problems came up. First off, this exposition of yoga seems "Hatha-centric," mentioning asanas again and again, which might be understandable for an American audience, but in an expanded view, enough already! Hatha is great fun, organized, sellable, but let's face it, the relevance to yoga is at best shaky. One example:when discussing the opening scene of the Bhagavad Gita, "Assembled here on this field of Dharma, Kurukshetra, desiring war..." Mr. Freeman comments, "Reminds me of my sticky mat!" Cute. But that glib comment actually comes closer than most of his others. The Bhagavad Gita, from what I understand, is mainly an exposition of the inner battle, the psychology, the standoff between good habits and bad habits, the long and arduous quest for awakening. That's the Bhagavad Gita; not really about warfare, politics, and outer dealings. And one final observation in the capacity of "critic" that prevents me from giving this five stars: finally discussing my favorite, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, isn't it pronounced Pa-TAN-jali and not Patan-JAL-i? Hearing PatanJOLLY again and again, grates.

Savasa Yoga Mate Review

(More customer reviews)After getting frustrated at my balled-up towels and heavy washing machine loads, I opted to try Savasa's Yoga Mate.When it arrived I was so excited, it fits over the mat perfectly, and is light enough to carry without any stress.The first use was equally happy, the towel worked very well, though I was a little taken aback by its thinness and harsher cotton weaving.

It fit into the wash machine very nicely, and was not a burden on the load as a regular towel full of sweat would have been.But the problems started after the drying, when, despite using a low-heat cycle, the Yoga Mate shrank to near 75% of its original size--no longer fitting over the mat, and certainly not allowing for the wide-leg poses of the standing Bikram session.

I think I'll go back to towels, sure they are wasteful, but they do work.The concept here is good, but the materials just aren't up to snuff.

(More customer reviews)I'm a bit of a novice to yoga.I love the inversions, and was delighted when I was finally able to hop into a headstand - only to end up with something not unlike whiplash, as my neck was frantically trying to stabilize my whole body.The Yogacise solves all kinds of problems for me.It not only relieves my neck of that burden, but it actually seems to decompress a tired neck (which I chronically have these days).It's virtually effortless to move into a headstand with this contraption, but you still get a terrific core workout once you're up.There's just really nothing I can say to fault this thing.It's comfortable.It's well made.Maybe I wish it would fold up a bit more compactly - but heck, that's just a detail.It's my new favorite yoga toy - and well worth the money.And oh, by the way - Gaiam sells this same unit for $20 more on its website.So Amazon's is a deal.

Manduka Standard Rectangular Bolster Review

(More customer reviews)I have used loads of different bolsters over the years, and you can tell because they are indented, droopy, compressed, and slumpy. What I love about the Manduka bolster is that it HOLDS IT SHAPE, FOREVER....It is firm and supportive, like a good mattress, and perfect for restorative types of practices, or functions great as a base for the spine while doing core work or floor based backbends when you want extra padding. The microfiber feels great on the skin. I also like to use it with my Yoga Tune Up® students to do some interesting strength based moves that require lifting the bolster in different ways. Did I mention that it doesn't lose it's shape??? HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Stick-e Brands Yogi On The Road Travel Package Review

(More customer reviews)I'm not a major yoga enthusiast, but I really look forward to my yoga class every week. These products have made the class more enjoyable for me. I use the gloves and socks along with my sticky mat and they completely eliminate my feet and hands from slipping in the poses (particularly plank, down-dog, and warriors). I had struggle with these poses before from slipping and now I don't. One thing to note is that the open toes and fingers cause the gloves and socks to wedge between the fingers and toes really bad, however that is because I put too much weight on my hands, forearms, feet, and calves rather than using all the muscles that I should be using to support my weight (which may also be why I slip so much). That being said, it reminds me to self correct and use the other muscles to support myself. One other thing, you can't adjust your feet very well to spread farther during a pose without picking them up and setting them down. Being aware of this won't hinder the pose if you plant your feet properly. The light fabric allows for the hands and feet to breathe and not accumulate very much sweat.

The towel has a nice and soft material to rest your head on and wipe yourself off with. But using it to plant your hands on will definitely cause them to slip worse than anything. Don't really care for the sticky material on the bottom, but I still like using it. I don't travel often enough to know how practical they are for traveling with, but I really enjoy using these products in my class. I recommend trying these.

Stick-e Brands Yoga Stick-e Gloves Review

(More customer reviews)I bought these gloves because when I am doing yoga, my hands get REALLY sweaty and I have a hard time holding poses, particularly poses like downward dog, when my hands are slipping so badly on the mat.I picked these specific gloves because I saw there is fabric between the fingers so you don't slide out of the gloves (unlike some others that I found), and since they are fabric, I thought they would do a decent job at absorbing some of the moisture.

Essentially what I have learned is that I am better off with them, but they still do not take care of the problem.My hands are still reallyreally sweaty, and they will slide into the gloves so much that the fabric between my fingers starts to cut into my skin.I am constantly having to readjust, which is distracting.Do the sticky pads hold the gloves in place on the mat?Yes, they do, very well.Are the gloves comfortable otherwise? Yes.Does $25 seem like a lot of money for basically the same gloves that you buy in the Dollar Store during the winter for cheap kids gloves, only with the sticky patches and with the fingers cut off?Yup, it does.

The bottom line is that if you just have a small problem with sliding on the mat, these will probably help you.But if you have sopping wet hands like me, then these alone will NOT help you very much.I am going to try spraying my hands with antiperspirant in conjunction WITH the gloves to see if that does it, but I was hoping when I bought these gloves that they would eliminate the need for such measures.

Zenzation Athletics Yoga Towel Review

(More customer reviews)I purchased several of these towels for myself and as gifts for my friends.Here are some pros & cons:

Pros:
1.Fits yoga mat completely.If you practice hot yoga and don't clean your mat after every class, it's more hygienic to protect yourself from your mat with a towel that covers the whole mat.

2. It is easy on your washing machine than a regular towel because it is most likely smaller (especially if you're using a beach towel for your mat).It is easier on your dryer because it drys faster since it is not made of thick cotton.

Cons:
1. You might be unlucky and get a weird towel that's not the right size to fit your mat.I purchased several of them and one was a little off in size (not as wide) compared to the others.It's a bit annoying but it still works the same as the others.

2. It doesn't help with slipping much, but as your practice improves, this may be a good thing.You're challenging yourself and not using any extra equipment to help you in your practice.

3. It moves around/bunches up sometimes during your practice (during sun salutations), but I never found this to be a big deal.Just move it back.

4.It will not prevent your mat from getting drenched with your sweat.In fact, you probably won't find a towel thick enough to protect your mat from your sweat...unless you don't sweat much during your practice.

5.It only comes it one color right now: a light grey.This isn't so bad because you can actually bleach once in a while to get a good cleaning.If you bleached colored towels...they will not look good afterwards! Overall, I found these towels useful and it helped with reducing the laundry load because they're smaller/thinner than the regular towels I used before.

(More customer reviews)I am a beginning yoga teacher and bought several of these blocks for my small, non-studio classes. I am a big proponent of using blocks and after 10 years of practice use them regularly - moreso than at the beginning when I somehow thought blocks were a sign of weakness!
These specific blocks are quite good. they feel very firm and sturdy in all flat hand applications. they "give" a little and are left with an imprint if you are on your fingertips or all the weight is on the heel of your hand. the imprint disappears pretty quickly. They aren't spongy at all.

Lifeboard - Portable Yoga Floor to Enhance Yoga At Home on Carpet or Outdoors Just About Anywhere Review

The ingenious tabs lock the two halves together in such a way as to prevent any displacement side-to-side or up-and-down (absolutely no sagging in the center). The panels are surprisingly light (approximately 17.5 pounds combined) yet are very rigid. Once assembled, you get the impression you are standing on a single sheet of material. A standard yoga mat fits between the cutouts (which serve as handles) and leaves approximately 2 inches of exposed LifeBoard at each end.

It was a bit confusing initially connecting the two halves. You cannot connect them with the panels laying on the floor. You must hold a panel vertically in each hand (opposite edge resting on the floor, bottom surface facing you) and allow the wide end of the tabs on one panel to pass through the wide space between the tabs on the other panel. Being careful to keep the tabs interlocked (in the same manner as interlocking the extended fingers of your hands), you swing the opposite ends of the panels away from you, allowing the tabs to mesh snugly together, then lay the LifeBoard on the floor.

As stated, the LifeBoard is very rigid, easily providing adequate support for hands, wrists, feet and ankles during yoga practice. I should note the sensation is not identical to that provided by a mat on a hard floor, rather one of a mat on a hard, rigid surface resting on a cushioned surface (obviously). A hard flooring surface is laid on a hard sub-floor resting on rigid joists, the only cushion is that provided by the mat. The degree of cushion (give) you feel on the LifeBoard depends on the carpet on which the platform rests -- thick, long-pile carpet will compress more than short-pile or Berber carpeting. Regardless, support is more than adequate.
